Suits you sir!

Here is a small featurette about the suits and costumes found in new Tron: Legacy. This film is getting so much hype that I fear it may not live up to expectation, but I also have yet to see anything that makes me suspect it won’t be any good. We will have to wait and see.

Burlesque

Here, exclusively, are a few songs from the new musical film Burlesque with Christina Aguliera and Cher. I am still a bit on the fence about the whole thing, but the music is convincing me. Have a listen.

Gulliver’s Travels

We have all seen the Orange advert before every film over the past few months, now here is the full version of the trailer for Jack Black’s new film ‘Gulliver’s Travels’. It takes the Georgian book written by Jonathan Swift and puts it in a modern day context, with jokes about both Star Wars and iPhones. Along side Black is a huge host of British and American talent including Emily Blunt, Jason Segal, Katherine Tate, Billy Connolly and Amanda Peet. It will be out on Boxing Day.

Tron Legacy

It was not hugely popular on release, but has accumulated a huge cult status as being one of the best video game themed film of all time and now the story of Tron is continuing with Tron Legacy.

Tron Legacy follows Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) the son of original protagonist Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) as he searches for his father who went missing at the end of the last film. To find him he must enter the computer game world of Tron where each pixel has a mind of it’s own.

A lot of the original motifs and ideas from the 1982 film have been kept in by given a 21st century, big budget make over. The green screen and CGI look fantastic and it is likely that the 3D will be done incredibly well. Also Jeff Bridges plays his younger counterpart and the CGI has been used superbly to make him look identical to how he used to look back in the first one. This is likely going to have huge box office ratings when it is released on December 17th.

Burlesque

It worked for Beyonce and Eminem, but the same can’t be said for Madonna, Mariah Carey or Britney Spears, to name a few; now Christina Aguliera is making the move from recording studio to film studio.

Aguliera plays small town girl Alice who heads to LA to become a star. As with many young  hopefuls Alice finds her self not on stage, but behind a bar at a local burlesque club. She then gets her big chance to perform on stage and with help from the maitre d (none other than music legend turned actress success story Cher) Alice’s life takes a star lit turn. Feels like the bio pic for the Pussycat Dolls.

It is unknown from these clips whether Aguliera will be able to do what so many other singers fail at, but with the help of veterans such as Stanley Tucci and Cher it is possible the film will be good. Also, as with Moulin Rouge, the songs will mostly be mash-ups and remixes of old classics and there will be enough scantly clad men and women to keep all the audience entertained. Who knows, come the 17th December we could watch something that is better than expected.

You Have 2 New Friend Requests

Social networking has revolutionized the way we live and altered communication, advertising and most recently the law. So it comes as not surprise that the experience and dangers of social cyberspace have been made into a film; 2 in fact. There is ‘The Social Network’ which I have already mentioned and there is also ‘Catfish’, which looks at the darker side of it all.

Catfish is a fly on the wall documentary about  New York photographer Nev Schulman who pursues an online relationship with Megan Pierce who he meets after her half sister Abbey sends him a picture of one of his photos. We are shown, through the perspective of Nev’s friends, how the relationship grows as they start to text, call and email each other constantly. But with a the title of the film meaning ‘ a person who pretends to be someone they are not using online social networks’ we know it won’t be ending well. In fact the ending has been described by ‘JoBlo.com’ as ‘an emotional roller-coaster ride that you won’t be able to shake for days’, while the Financial Times said the film was ‘ the best Hitchcock film that Hitchcock never directed’. With such great recommendations it is a shame that UK viewers will likely never get to watch it, but I would love to hear from an American readers what the film is like. It will be released state side on 17th September 2010.

Luckily for UK audiences we will get to watch ‘The Social Network’ which will be out in the UK 15th October 2010. However, until then here is a sneak preview of some of the film’s scenes.

Lock up your daughters; here come the bad boys

In the space of a few months two big animation studios are releasing films which centre around super villains; ‘Despicable Me’ by Universal and ‘Megamind’ by Dreamworks. The films’ close realise dates have the old comedy team of Will Ferrel (Megamind) and Steve Carell (Gru) put against each other for the role of ultimate evil genius, but who will take over the world box office? Both these films look like they will have a great new take on the timeless hero Vs villain dynamic that everyone knows.

Gru (Carell) is an evil genius, but it doesn’t seem like he is a very good one. However he does have a heart which shows when he adopts three orphaned girls. The film will follow Gru as he gets to grips with this family and responsibilities as well as also trying to pull off his biggest heist-stealing the moon. The film is going to be released in the UK on October 15th 2010.

‘Megamind’ has a start that harks back to the origins of Superman, with two children from neighbouring planets being sent away from their homes just before their destruction and both landing on Earth, though in very different circumstances. One is brought up in a loving home and will become the hero Metro Man while the other is brought up in a prison and will become the villain Megamind. With the emergence of a new villain, Tighten, the roles are reversed and Megamind is given the chance to be a hero, while Metro Man hides away in retirement. This film is out December 3rd 2010.
